Facebook Doesn’t Value the Developer Relationship

Yesterday afternoon, Facebook dropped a bomb on the developers and content creators that use Facebook pages to extend their brands into the social web.  In a very unprofessional and careless manner, they announced a major policy change by burying it in the middle of a forum thread on the Facebook Developer site.

The specifics of the change are that Facebook Pages with fewer than 10,000 fans (likers?) will no longer be allowed to set their default landing tab to anything other than the Wall or Info tabs.

Facebook and Privacy

This is a note I sent today to my co-workers.  Thought others might find it useful as well.

Long note here, but probably worth the read if you’re on Facebook.

Some Background

As some of you may have heard, Facebook has recently made changes to the service that have implications for how your information is treated, and what information is private and not private on Facebook.

Unfortunately, Facebook hasn’t been transparent with these changes, and I’ve had this note in draft form for over a week now, as I’ve added a little to it each day as more details emerge.

Adding FBML to a Facebook Page

After my HEWEBVC presentation last week, I’ve been asked by a number of people how we added links to our class groups and pages to our Facebook page.

Here’s a short tutorial I recorded on adding FBML content to your Facebook Page.  Although we use it to link to related groups and pages, there are many other uses for FBML boxes and tabs.
